Wandering the World: We have launched!
It has been crazy. Really. So much moving still to do once in the camper and so we ended up leaving a day later than we originally planned. By the time we loaded up, hitched up, and drove to walmart to get lunch, it was noon. OFCOURSE, I ended up losing my car keys in walmart. We spent forever trying to find them only to realize they were buried in the groceries in the cart. Ugh.
So that first night... we made it like 100 miles. Lets just say that wasn't very far. We also started wondering if maybe we were heavier than we should be. Tom went to weigh the camper and wasn't sure how to weigh it. Total weight though came out to be 15,500 lbs.
UMMMMMM. That is totally over weight.
So here we are, in the middle of no where with too much stuff. So Tom and I haul out as many things as possible... Extra TVS, scooters, tools, clothes, luggage, you name it!!! We got rid of more than we thought possible.
Tom went to unhitch to load up all the stuff to go to Goodwill only to have the sway bracket break. Seriously?
In the morning, poor Tom had to drive around everywhere to try and find a place to donate all our stuff and get a new bracket from a tool store on a sunday morning. No fun. Needless to say, our early departure was delayed again.
When I went to put in the slide, I noticed that it made a funny sound. However, it went in. A short while later, Zach tried to put it back out to make a touch more room and it wouldn't move. Stupidly, I didn't give it much thought and figured it was because we were in the process of draining the fresh water tanks. I would soon learn.
By the time we got ready and headed back to the scales, it was already 11am. Upon weighing, we were STILL too heavy. We decided to move all the kids to the van, since we were only about 800 lbs still over weight. We decided to make it to our first stop and then we would evaluate what else we could get rid of.
Needless to say, so far, our travels have not been smooth sailing.
