Wandering the World: Buckeye, AZ
Spoke too soon. We made it just out of Phoenix. Like 30 mins, before the truck started totally overheating. Tom literally limped into an autozone parking lot. Thankfull there was an RV park just 1 mile down the road. Tom picked up some radiator sealant, a thermostat and some more coolant and planned to see what he could do.
We dragged ourselves down the road and pulled into the RV park. We let the kids swim since we had to let the truck cool down before any work could be done anyway. I ended up decidng to drive to Ikea and pick up some things since we were still in Phoenix. I took the big kids with me and Tom put the littles to bed. We ended up being able to drive by the Mesa Temple (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) to show the kids. It was so beautiful in the dark!! I wish we had more time to hit the visitors center.
So Tom did an amazing job and changed everything out late into the night. Bright and early, we loaded up the trailer to see how the truck would do. Needless to say, we barely made it down the road to to autozone. Sadly, it was already overheating. Some phone calls to mechanics showed us that there was nothing that could be done today. We ended up finding a Just Breaks that could do a full check on the truck to see if there were any issues we were missing. That would surely put us on the right track.
$100 later: Nada. Absolutely nothing was showing up problematic. Figures.
So we called it a night. Took the camper back to the same park and just had a powwow. We could not see any way to actually get a truck big enough to haul what we wanted to haul while not financing it. Knowing we were heading over passes and that we would likely pay MORE in LA for a truck, we were stuck in Phoenix until we found something. Figures. Time to go big or go home. Oh wait... Time to go big or go NOWHERE.
