Wandering the World: Valley of Fires
We are rapidly adjusting to our new normal of not getting as far as we plan. We have also learned that wind matters more than anything!! We saw a storm approaching quickly and the wind was getting out of hand, so we made the decision to stop for the night where we were.
We happened to be just minutes from a beautiful state park. We will take it!! Not only was it beautiful, and set upon a bed of lava rocks, it was only $15 a night. Win!
We suddenly realized that the rain was setting in and that it was cold outside! We haven't set up that quickly before. It was a perfect night to just snuggle in and listen to the rain. It was lovely. One of our windows was leaking, but you know, it wasn't the worst that had happened.
This morning we got up to sunny skies and I took the big 4 on a hike around the lava rocks. Tom and Elijah drove on ahead incase we were delayed. We spent about 2 hours walking and exploring and the weather was perfect. It was so fun to watch the kids. They are just astounded at everything little thing they find. It is such a fun age. There were some elderly folks walking near us and they just giggled every time the kids exclaimed that they found something new. It was awesome.
